Eating to heal: protein, simply explained

Why protein matters, and easy ways to get enough.

4 min read · re: editorial

After surgery, your body is busy rebuilding. Protein provides the building blocks for that repair, which is why it comes up so often in recovery advice.

Simple sources

  • :Eggs, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese
  • :Chicken, fish, tofu, beans and lentils
  • :Nut butters, milk or fortified plant milks
  • :Soups and stews made ahead and frozen in small portions

Aim to include a source of protein at each meal and snack. You don't need to count precisely. Consistency matters more than perfection.
