Finding a way to sleep

Rest is part of recovery. Here's how to find it.

Sleep can be elusive after surgery. Discomfort, positioning limits and changes to routine all interfere. Be patient with yourself. It usually improves week by week.

  • :Think about the familiar things that make your resting place feel comfortable.
  • :Keep water, a light and anything you use at night close by.
  • :Keep a steady routine: similar bedtimes, dim lights, screens off in the last hour.
  • :Short daytime naps are fine. Long ones may make nights harder.
