The night before, and the morning of

A calm routine for the final hours.

The night before surgery is often the hardest part. Not physically, but mentally. A simple, familiar routine can help you feel steady.

The evening

  • :Follow your team's instructions about eating and drinking. This is called fasting, and it keeps you safe during anesthesia.
  • :Lay out loose, comfortable clothes that are easy to put on.
  • :Pack a small bag: ID, insurance card, medication list, phone charger, glasses case.

The morning

Shower if your team has asked you to, using any special soap they provided. Skip lotions, makeup and jewelry. Give yourself extra time so nothing feels rushed.
